History: Timeline Gaps

History: Timeline Gaps

Original: Simple question on the timeline. When one age ends, will the first year of the following age be the exact next year?

Such as the end of the Age of days is 4,310. Would year 1 of the age of Kings be considered 4,311 of the Age of Days, or is there a gap?

Answer: There's no gap - actually, they overlap. Year 4310 of the Age of Days and Year 1 of the Age of Kings were the same year, for a least a big chunk of them (no, the age transitions don't neatly fall on New Year's day).

As it says at the top of the expanded timeline for the Age of Kings, if you want an Elvish style date (ignoring the Age of Kings altogether) simply add 4309 to the Age of Kings year.

By that count, the Turning happened in the 5,408th year of the Age of Days. 4311 Age of Days would actually be 2KY, or the second year of the Age of Kings.

Hope that helps.
