History: Miscellaneous Info

Original: I think it had something to do with this:

"In the Before Time, before the sun was made, the World was upside down, with sky below and ground above. The People lived as animals, naked, without speech, and ate raw flesh or the grasses of the Plains. The animals back then were the masters, and built Yurts, made tools, and had speech. They hunted Men for food, or for sport, and kept people for pets or in pens. But First Man knew better. From the great Lioness he learned the secret of Fire, and he rose up in battle against Snake, Boar, Wolf, and Bear, the Kings of the Animals. So great was their battle that the Earth fell, and the ground was laid down under the sky, as it is now. So the world was made.

According to Horwathi Legends the animals have been the first Masters of the World, and the Beast Lords are also Gods. So one could conclude that the original Beastlords split up in two groups, the gods and the Beast Lords. On the other hand it could be that the All-Father was merely taught by Lion(ess?). In the Legend there don't appear Lion Beast Lords, but the Dragon *knows* the son of Lion. Probably it was not the first time the Dragon awoke (battled with Lion or other Beast Lords before?), although it was the first time the All-Father met It. I guess a lot of things will be left open for player made fiction, but the possibilities are quite huge.

Also Meridian hinted on the Golden Lion, which I thought to be coincidence, but now ... Is the 'Golden Lion' the 'All-Father-Inn'? Or why else was the name chosen. Questions, questions, questions ... coincidence? Maybe.

Answer: Hello again all!

Sorry about the delay, but sleep is good for you (at least, so I'm told).

To answer all of your questions:

Moondragon: Cambruin was killed in 1099 which, I suppose, has an interesting correlation to the Crusades. That was not at all intentional (the fact that he was crowned High King in 1066 was, on the the hand, deliberate). As for Templars and Crusaders, I like 'em just fine the way they are - we use "Templar" because of the sinister connotations the word brings for students of conspiracy and the occult. If you're studying Templars, you MUST read Focault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco. It will bend your brain, but it;s an exquisite book.

Mad One - We're hoping to make player events a part of the history of SB once the game goes gold. One of the things I've been working on is quest/FC plot threads that can involve PCs or PC guilds and which have more than one potential outcome. That way, the choices people make will have a direct effect on the rest of the plot.

Limbo - I currently don't have any idea who Ithriana's father is. I figure Sillestor had a daughter, who in turn bore the future Lich-Queen.

Vladrek - will we release the other stories (Heloise, Ymur, etc) in RL or in game? A mix of both I think. I'd love to see a nice book full of cool art and SB legends and fables. Ideally, such stories would be chock full of hints that might help during quests.

Evelyn - How did the Dragon wake? Not gonna tell. Bear in mind though, that the Elves have always been of the opinion that the All-Father woke it. It seems Cap'n Morgan even has the proof! lol

Moondragon - Son of Lion? Lion the Beast Lord? Golden Lion? Hmmmm.... Interesting tidbit there, but I cannot comment further.

Spaz - will there be a book soon? "Soon" is such a relative term. Warden and I definitely want SB fiction in novel form, but first we've got to get the game out, the manuals and strategy guide done, and the Story Board set up and running. I hope that books will follow, though.

Black Lynx - I'm afraid Saedron never really got better. She sort of has a split personality now, shifting between the Goddess of Magic and the Mother of Night (think Baba Yaga). This is one reason why the Centaurs don't really get along with their mother any more. She still has lots of secrets and lore to tell, but you have to be careful. You never know which Saedron you're talking to...

Thanks for the questions!
