First, the darn story was long enough without it, and on top of that, there was no way to go into much detail without seriously disrupting the narrative. I figure that it will eventually end up as a story unto itself, like the romance of Caeric and Heloise, or the Tests of Beregund. So much to write...

Anyway, in the end the Dwarves have a VERY different take on what went down, and the incident was quite a blow to their pride. To quote Worf, "We do NOT talk about it." If some non-Dwarf were to mention it, they'd probably try to dismiss the whole thing as an Elvish fable, even as they fail to actually deny that it happened.

So there you have the actual and fictional reasons why the incident was omitted. I didn't forget it! No, really!
