Dwarves: Corruptable?

It's an interesting notion -

The Dwarves have a lot on their shoulders. They're the oldest race, and the most ironclad in their "goodness." They literally bear the remembrance and the expectations of several Gods they way no toher race in SB does.

If you read their Lore closely, you'll see the gradual transition that takes place in Dwarvish consciousness - at first they're little more than automatons, but gradually they, as a race, learn joy, and hate, and sorrow, and even love. They learn to fail. When Thurin asks them instead of commanding, that's a big deal. The Shaper's sons are coming of age.

We all know how stormy growing up can be. Is it possible that a Dwarf, when presented with the rigours of the ongoing fight against Chaos, the loss of Shadowbane, and the Turning itself, might go astray?

Sure - it's possible. Corrupting dragon's blood, greed, or even stiff-neck'dness might all lead a Dwarf tot he brink. I'd be much more interested in knowing what led that Dwarf to renounce his brothers' customary ideals - it'd need to be a tragedy worthy of Tolkien or Wagner.

Of all the characters in LotR, Denether is one of the ones who never fails to grab me - look at his tragedy. He's twisted in knots, to the point where he drives his son to the brink of death, and is prepared to murder him and commit suicide. Sure, Sauron has been corrupting him, but what really opened the door to the influence of evil?
As he says to Gandalf:

'I would have things as they were in all the days of my life, and in the days of my longafthers before me: to be lord of this City in peace, and leave my chair to a son after me...'

You can't blame him for that, surely! But look what the best of intentions can come to...

To get back on topic, I think the number of fallen Dwarves would be VERY low indeed. In fact, I've long been considering a Dwarf villain as part of the meta plot... The time for hsi appearance has not yet come, but hopefully it will, in due time...
