Minotaurs: Morloch

Minotaurs: Morloch

Original: I just ran across something bizarre in my Minotaur research: their race description lists their Patron as Morloch! Given the fact that they were basically created by the Elves from Humans, where does Morloch enter into the picture? Is there any reason that this might be so, or do you think maybe this Morloch reference is out of date, left over from before the Minotaur history was fully formed? I mean, if the Minotaurs' Patron really is Morloch, it seems that they'd be fighting tooth and nail with the other races, and while they do practice RERO (Raid Early Raid Often), the occasional Minotaur goes to the "civilized" lands to make his living among the other races, which isn't really consistent with your average Chaos spawn.

What do you think?

Answer: Actually, given the way some things have gone down in history, the allgience of many Minotaurs to Morloch isn't that surprising.

Consider this: of all the Gods, Morloch is the only one who doesn't have a race of offspring. Why isn't exactly clear - legends claim that he may have sired a demi-god or two, but the Maimed God has no large mass of children.

So, he's gone around adopting other races.

He did it first with the Giants - they both had a burning resentment of the All-Father, and it was easy to win them over after the smashing of the great saga. They served him well in the War of Stones, but eventually got tired of the Masked God, and abandoned him.

So after trying to subvert the Dwarves, Malog got trapped with a legion of Elves and Men over in Chaos. He subverted them to his will, and the twisted breeds have dutifully worshipped him ever since.

The Minotaurs fit Morloch's pattern nicely: they hate everybody, especially their creators, and feel that none of the other gods has anything to offer them. Morloch can be quite persuasive once he gets rolling, and has lots of goodies to offer anyone foolish enough to follow him. Once he's got you, however, it's another story...
