Necromancy: The Lore of

Well, I have two answers for you. Or, to put it another way, there's good news and bad news...

The Lore of Necromancy. Long ago, when Time first run for the world of Aerynth, the dead refused to stay dead. Undead things plagued the Deathless Empire and the Realm of Ardan. The Men of Ardan took up arms against the new menace, creating a special branch of magic that lives on today, half-remembered, as the Undead Hunter discipline.

The Elves, in true Elvish fashion, took a different appraoch. Rather than beating the new threat, they sought to enslave it. Look at the skeleton description in the Bestiary, and you see a hint of the necromancy practiced by the Elves of old. All that lore has been forgotten, however - the Holy Church was never fond of it, and a succession of cataclysms (the Human revolt, the War of the Scourge, the War of Tears, and, of course, the Turning) have swept away the last memories of the dark art.

Rumor has it that ancient texts of necromantic lore still exist, and that someday, someone might perhaps learn enough to revive or re-invent it. Perhpas, say, around the time of the first expansion...
