Ahhh - the old argument resumes! Woot!

(in his best Joe Pesci voice)"Who killed Cambruin? Who offed the High King? Man, it's a mystery hidden inside a riddle wrapped in an enigma! The frikkin' guy with Shadowbane didn't even know!"

Heh. Digression off.

There have been many iterations of this over the years - the best of them happened during early beta. Alas, those boards and posts are long since gone, though there were some people who archived a lot of my old comments. (Shadowbania, alas!)

The way I see it, it breaks down like this. Either:

1) Malorn killed the High King, and lied about it. Why kill his lord, perhaps because Cambruin wanted to end the crusade against the Elves. One thing that I said once, and still hold as true - Malorn's family was slaughtered by Elves during the War of Tears. He was taken in by the Holy Church as a very young orphan, and raised as a Crusader. Later when he learned the truth, we was so outraged that he left the Holy Church to stand with Cambruin, and did indeed serve as one of the Champions. I expect he did some kind of really remarkable deed to win the High King's favor - but that's a story for another time.

Alternately, Malorn may have been possessed by someone/something, and made to do it.

2) Somebody else killed the High King, Malorn wasn't even there, and his made up story is a lie. Why make up the tale? Legitimacy. He's the spiritual (if not physical) heir to the High King. Another plot point I'd established (alas, I'm not sure how publically its known) is that while Cambruin's body was burned and his ashes eventually interred in a hidden tomb by Zeristan, it was Malorn who dutifully took custody of the Crown. He never dreamed of putting it on - he is but a humble serbant, after all. BUT - whoever wants to sit the throne of the High Kingdom in the future will need his and the Temple's approval to do it.

3) Malorn is telling the truth, and everything went down exactly as he said. Stranger things have happened...
