Cambruin: Zeristar the Wise

Cambruin: Zeristar the Wise

A portion of a thread on the old boards: Gradishar: Wolfpack, I noticed that in the recent release of information (The Legend of Shadowbane) that we are introduced to a "Zeristan the Wise" who advises the High King Cambruin. Is this the same person as "Zaristan the Wise" discussed in the Sorcerer backstory? perhaps just a typo? or are they different folks?

Meridian: Actually, Arctyc has it right (I must be getting predictable...). At the time Sorcery was invented, Almeus had a pupil named Zaristan, who went on to become one of the most powerful Wizards ever known. Tens of Centuries and the pivot of an Age later, there was an old Wizard named Zeristan who served as Cambruin's advisor. The names are remarkably similar, but most scholars agree that they can't have been the same Wizard. After all, only a Dwarf or one of the Firstborn Elves would live that long... More likely he's just a talented Wizard riding on the name recognition Zaristan has in legends.

Incidentally, precise spelling is a 19th Century invention (and, reading these forums, one wonders if it has caught on even now). So you can assume that in documents this old you'd run across the name Zaeristan, Zerystan, and others...

And yes, Zeristan Cambruin's advisor did make it through the Turning. Perhaps someday he'll be available for comment.
